Foundations
The Foundations Programme is specially designed to develop the skills of young people and help you prepare for either further education, employment or apprenticeship.
As the name suggests, the aim of the programme is to provide you with a solid foundation and to prepare you for your “next steps” on your chosen career path.
The training can last up to 22 weeks, and its purpose is to arm you with the right skills in areas such as ICT, literacy, numeracy, employability and personal and social development.
While on the programme you will also have the opportunity to work towards accredited qualifications at a level which suits your abilities. You may also access work experience or undertake volunteering to enhance your employability skills.
Fun while you learn
The main focus here is on developing your literacy, numeracy and ICT skills for work or for a further qualification. And we pride ourselves in approaching these subjects in a fun and innovative way, with interactive learning sessions using equipment such as Nintendo DS, Wii, as well as other more formal teaching aids.
How do I get on it?
Before joining the programme your numeracy, literacy and ICT skills are assessed to make sure it is at the right level for you, and helping you to develop the skills towards the next level.
Work experience
You may also have the opportunity to complete work experience. This could be offered as a two week block or may be completed over the duration of your course in smaller chunks. Providing you with experience of a real working environment and giving you the chance to find out what it is like to work in a particular industry.
Employability skills
You will also work towards accredited qualifications which improve your Employability Skills. This will provide you with the all essential skills to be able to look for employment, including CV writing, interview techniques, job search and exploring different career choices.
Life skills
Support and training is provided to develop each person’s life skills. This includes team activities, setting and working towards personal targets, developing self confidence, dealing with conflict and joining in with workshop sessions.
Support is provided to each young person by both the tutors and external organisations as and when required.
