Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair

You have an initial interview with us to check we can offer you the kind of training you are seeking. We would ask you to help us find you an employer willing to support you in your training.

You join a short induction course that leads you into the Training Programme. You attend a local college one day per week to study for a National Vocational Qualification in Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair .  You will normally aim for Level 2.  As an Apprentice you will also gain Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number and Information Technology. As an Advanced Apprentice, this will be at Level 3. Both levels also include a Technical Certificate.

On the other four days of the week you will be working with a garage gaining valuable practical experience.

Your work-based assessor will visit you in your work placement at about 6-8 weekly intervals to help you overcome any problems you might meet, especially if this is your first experience in the world of work. Assessments will take place in the work place and actions set for the next visit. The training programme can last 2 to 3 years.

The Training Programme concentrates on assessment of practical skills in the workplace whilst the background knowledge is covered by training one day per week at college.  Learners will need to have good practical skills, be able to cope with the maths they will be studying and be able to take down notes from the college lecturers. Previous experience working with cars even at home or by a Saturday/part-time job, will be useful.
