Children's Care, Learning & Development

You have an initial interview with us to check we can offer you the kind of training you are seeking. You join a short introductory course that leads you into the Training Programme.

You attend our Training Centre one day per week as an Apprentice to work towards a Children's Care, Learning and Development Framework  This includes a Paediatric First Aid course

You will also gain Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number, and a Technical Certificate in Children's Care, Learning & Development.

On the other four days of the week you will be acquiring practical skills in a nursery, infant or primary school.

Your Tutor or Monitoring Officer will visit your work placement at about 6-8 weekly intervals to see how you are getting on and help you overcome any problems you might meet, especially if this is your first experience of the world of work. Work-based assessments will be carried out at these visits. Actions are set at these visits and additional visits booked where appropriate.

The length of your training programme will depend upon the level of your Apprenticeship, but generally the programme lasts for 15 months.

The training programme concentrates on practical assessment in Children's Care whilst the background knowledge is covered by training one day per week in our Training Centre.

Whilst training, you will be receiving at least the minimum training allowance.
